Schiphol to invest in body scanners after letting terrorist through

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport will be investing in 60 new body scanners authorities announced after the airport after the would-be Christmas Day terrorist was allowed to board a flight to Detroit.

15 body scanners are currently already in use for flights from Amsterdam to the United States, and 60more are on order after the airport stepped up security after the scare.

A 23-year-old Nigerian travelled to Amsterdam from Lagos in Nigeria, from where he then boarded a Northwest flight into the United States.  On descent into Detroit, he reportedly failed to correctly detonate the pentrite explosive he had concealed in his underwear.

This failed attack has seen airports around the world invest in x-ray body scanning machines in a bid to prevent any similar attempts taking place.

But the x-ray machines have drawn criticism from privacy advocates as well as raising fears of increased cancer risks through radiation for frequent travellers.
