World’s longest cruise to sail in 2010

Seattle-based Cruise West has announced it will launch the World’s Longest Cruise taking passengers across the globe in a 335-night circumnavigation.

The company’s 4500 ton, 120 passenger, all suite Spirit of the Oceanus will visit 242 ports in 59 countries across six continents on its “Voyages of the Great Explorers” cruise, which is set to embark on 5 March 2010. However, the cruise will not sail into Antarctica due to the lack of an ice-class rating.

Cruise West is primarily known for its small-ship Alaska and Mexico cruises, and with the circumnavigation will re-brand itself as a global operator.

"Alaska is not really a repeat destination; you mostly cruise there only once," President and CEO of Cruise West, Dietmar Wertanzl said.

"As a company, you can’t just keep doing more of the same. There’s too much capacity in Alaska. Alaska is who we are, but in this tough economy, we have to do something to stand out."
