Top up your Qantas points balance while you sleep

Qantas Frequent Flyer members can now earn Qantas points while they sleep using the Qantas Wellbeing app.

Designed to encourage healthy sleep habits, the app, developed by Qantas Health Insurance, incentivises Frequent Flyers by offering Qantas Points to limit screen time before bed, develop regular sleep patterns and better understand healthy sleep practices.

The ‘Sleep Health Challenge’ is the latest feature in the Qantas Wellbeing app that rewards Australians with Qantas Points for developing healthy lifestyle habits. Members can already earn points for keeping active by walking, cycling or swimming and understanding more about their BMI and blood pressure.

How it works:

●        Download the free Qantas Wellbeing app

●        Set your bedtime routine

●        Place your phone down at least 30 minutes before bedtime

●        Don’t move your phone until you wake up the next morning

●        Wake up with more Qantas Points

The app also prompts Frequent Flyers to track how they feel upon waking. By reviewing their Sleep Health Challenge history, users can see how better sleep practices affect their mood.

Users can also earn an additional 20 Qantas Points for taking part in the Qantas Sleep Quiz – a ten question guide to learning more about maximising your sleep drive, how diet and exercise affects sleep and understanding your body clock.

According to the Sleep Health Foundation, four out of 10 Australian adults experience some form of inadequate sleep[i]. Not getting enough sleep can affect learning and decision making as well as increasing the risk of mental and physical illness.

Olivia Wirth Qantas Loyalty CEO said Qantas Frequent Flyer is the first airline loyalty program to offer points for something as simple as sleep.

“There’s a big opportunity for us as a health insurance provider to promote health and wellbeing among customers and demonstrate the value of preventative health management.

“The Qantas Wellbeing app has been downloaded over 400,000 times and uses Qantas Points to inspire hundreds of thousands of members to lead more active lifestyles. We hope to see the same
impact for adopting healthier sleep practices.”

Dr Gemma Paech, Sleep Scientist with The Sleep Health Foundation, said getting enough sleep is essential to a healthy lifestyle. “Poor sleep is associated with impairments to attention, memory and overall mental and physical health.

“Blue light from phone and computer screens at night can disrupt the production of melatonin – an important sleep hormone that regulates our internal body clock, lets us know when it’s time to sleep and helps us have good quality sleep. Not only this, but looking at a phone before bed and during the night can be stimulating and may evoke an emotional response, making us more alert when we should be asleep, resulting in fragmented sleep across the night.”

Qantas Frequent Flyers taking part in the Sleep Health Challenge will earn up to five points per night in the first monthii. After the first month the earn rate reduces to 0.5 points per night for members who are not Qantas Insurance policy holders.

Qantas Frequent Flyers taking advantage of all the Qantas Wellbeing app features have the ability to earn up to 3,406 points per year, with Qantas Insurance policyholders earning up to 20,000 points per year through the appiii.

You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and be aged 13 years or older to use the App. Conditions apply.

ii 5 Qantas Points is the number of points that can be earned through the Sleep Health Challenge per night through the Qantas Wellbeing App between 31 January to 28 February 2019. After this period, Qantas Frequent Flyer members who do not have an Eligible Qantas Insurance Product or have completed the 28-Day Trial will earn Qantas Points at a reduced rate. Eligible Qantas Insurance Products are Qantas Health Insurance Policies, Life Protect Policies and Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance Policy. Wellbeing program terms and conditions.
iii The Qantas Wellbeing App is offered by Qantas and you must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer (QFF) program and be 13 years of age or over to use the App. Each Qantas Insurance policy has a maximum number of points that can be earned each year through the App. 20,000 is the maximum number of Qantas Points that can be earned each year through the App by each QFF member who is covered under Advanced or Top Hospital Cover. To earn 20,000 points, you must participate in the highest daily and weekly challenges and win every weekly group challenge.
