My first job was with Virgin Atlantic Airways back in 1995, which was a wow factor entry to the industry! The travel, the vibe, the fun was amazing, and I’ve never looked back, nor wanted to change industries since. Why would you!

What do you like most about your job?

I love the variety of the job. Representing 24 airlines across Australia and New Zealand along with 41 airport and Government agency clients means that no 2 days are the same!

What’s one of the biggest achievements of your career so far?

I had the amazing opportunity of joining Expedia in the UK as part of the launch team, before anyone knew who and what Expedia were. I remember having to spell the name to all the airlines, hotels and car rental companies to try and secure meetings with them. This was before the internet had really taken off in the late 90’s and lots of people were sceptical about online selling. We went from selling 10 airline tickets a day to selling tens of thousands in just 2 short years. There was a lot of blood, sweat and tears to achieve that along with lots of laughs and good times too.

What’s the best advice ever given to you and who gave it?

My old boss at Expedia at the time Barnie Harford, who is now COO at Uber. He helped me steer my career in the right direction, moving from being the Airline guru at Expedia, into more of a senior manager role.

Who do you admire and see as a role model in the industry?

Having started my career with Virgin Atlantic, I can’t help but admire Sir Richard Branson. He was a true inspiration in my early years and has remained so throughout my career. His management style and leadership are second to none.

What can people expect from your company and what sets it apart from the rest?

Great things😊. I’ve been lucky enough to work for amazing brands during my career, and Anjuna and three consulting are no exceptions. With Anjuna, we are moving our GSA model into a new era by combing our big data analytic skills and our digital marketing expertise with our sales and marketing capabilities meaning that our offering is more of a strategic partnership with our airlines. Once you throw in the consulting services into the mix, we have a complete unique proposition. The consulting services allows us to further partner with airlines by providing advice and assistance on network planning, revenue management and strategic business planning.

What destinations are on your travel bucket list?

I’ve not yet been to Vietnam, so that’s on there for sure probably number 3, number 2 would be the Galapagos Islands but the ultimate one would be Antarctica.

What’s a memorable travel experience you’ve had (good or bad)?

I guess the most memorable would 23 years ago in Airlie Beach, when as a backpacker I met my future husband….also all the way from England! I was working in Beaches Backpackers checking people in, and happened to be on duty when he and his mates checked in. 23 years later, here we are back in Australia again – full circle!

What are three things you always take with you when travelling?

A book, moisturiser and my inhaler!

Name someone famous you’d like to travel with and a destination you’d like to go with them.

Tough question! I think I’d go with Maggie Smith (Violet Crawley from Downton Abbey) and go drink wine in Tuscany!

What direction do you see the industry heading in over the next five to ten years?

I see the use of data and how we use it in our decision-making processes evolving to the next level. We’re already starting to see companies like Walmart use facial recognition technology to identify shoppers who are unhappy or frustrated and then use that data to open new check out lines. The possibilities are endless for us to optimise our performance and customer satisfaction through the use of smart data.
