Peter Jackson to judge “100% Pure New Zealand Your Big Break”

Oscar winning director Peter Jackson has joined forces with Tourism New Zealand in a bid to attract more visitors to the country.

Best known for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jackson will help judge Tourism New Zealand’s short-film competition, which was officially launched yesterday (November 30th).

The competition, called 100% Pure New Zealand Your Big Break, will see five budding film-markers from around the world direct and produce their own three-minute films in New Zealand.

The finalists will get the chance to work with The Lord of the Rings producer Barrie Osborne and Wellington’s Park Road Post Production facility.

The winning film will be selected by Peter Jackson, who will personally view the final five entries.

Mr Osborne said he is looking forward to returning to New Zealand to work with the aspiring film-makers.

"I thought it would be exciting. It was a really innovative and creative thing to try. I also love New Zealand and this was a chance to showcase New Zealand," he said.

Outgoing chief executive of Tourism New Zealand, George Hickton said: "’Your Big Break’ is asking people to capture the essence of 100% Pure New Zealand and tell the world their story of how they see the youngest country on earth.

"The importance of having two film industry legends involved with Your Big Break is immense.

“Their support will help ensure the project is noticed by the world’s film industry, give it international reach and, we hope, result in some great stories."

Peter Jackson is currently working on the new Tintin film.
