The inaugural flight of Americas’ first A350 XWB, owned by TAM Airlines, took off on Monday from São Paulo/Guarulhos to Manaus.

Passengers actively participated in this milestone for aviation worldwide, and enjoyed a quieter and more comfortable journey, a benefit of the special lighting that helps reduce jet-lag, panoramic windows and roomier overhead compartments.

The aircraft of register PR-XTA, which operated flight JJ3408 this morning, was welcomed with the traditional water salute at the Manaus International Airport.

“Over the coming weeks, our customers will enjoy the unique opportunity to fly aboard the A350 XWB in a domestic route in Brazil,” said Ruy Amparo, vice-president of Operations and Maintenance at TAM.TAM Airlines A350 XWB

“Our employees, especially those working in operating areas, will take the opportunity to get to know the new model better while we operate domestic flights. The aircraft features the latest innovations in aerodynamics, design and cutting-edge technology. In March, passengers in the USA will get a closer glimpse of the A350 XWB, followed by the Spaniards in the following month.”

The A350 XWB will be one of LATAM Airlines Group’s main aircraft to operate long-haul flights to the United States and Europe. The company invested US$7 billion (list price of the jetliner) to order 27 aircraft of this model, which are scheduled to be delivered through 2021. Fifteen of them will be of the model A350-900 and twelve of the model A350-1000, which seats more passengers.

The acquisition of these latest generation jetliners attests to the commitment of LATAM Airlines Group. TAM’s second A350 XWB is scheduled to arrive in late-February and another five aircraft are scheduled for delivery over the course of the year.
