Swissôtel Berlin: A Deep Sleep Awaits

While a lot of tourism attention over the past twenty years has been focused on the revitalisation of Berlin’s central and eastern districts, the western district that was known as West Berlin has been somewhat overshadowed by the new projects at Potsdamerplatz and elsewhere in the city. Nevertheless, western Berlin retains its position as a great place to shop, dine, and sleep when on holiday in the German capital.

Speaking of sleep, no establishment in the city is better equipped to make sleepytime wonderful than Swissôtel Berlin am Kurfürstendamm, where a well thought out Deep Sleep package ensures guests with jetlag (or more persistent irregularities in their sleeping habits) are well looked after. Sleep is taken very seriously by this hotel, where one of Germany’s leading sleep doctors has his office on the ground floor.

The evening’s rituals begin with a specially prepared soft drink to soothe the mind, which should already be calmed by the decor of Swissôtel’s specially prepared Deep Sleep rooms, where light, sound, scent, and even the sonic pillow are designed to induce a peaceful slumber. A pre-breakfast wake-up drink is served in the morning to help make the transition to the world of the awake. If you find yourself getting woozy by the time you have gotten down to the lobby, don’t panic. The hotel’s sleek PowerNap Lounge off the main lobby offers a place to doze in relative quietude while enjoying the comfort of some very chic Inemuri loungers.

Not that you would want to spend all your time sleeping when the excitement of Berlin is just out the door. The Swissôtel is located right in the midst of Berlin’s best shopping district, with the fabled KaDeWe department store just down main artery Kurfürstendamm and a multitude of smart boutiques lining the sidestreets off it. One of Berlin’s hottest restaurants, Grosz, is just down the street and can be visited as part of a gourmet tour of Berlin led by one of Gastro Rallye‘s well-connected guides.
