The Ultimate French Riviera Experience

Hotel Martinez, long the meeting place for high society, is a fine example of continual reinvention to suit the needs of modern-day guests.  A beautiful palace of more modern vintage than 19th-century Belle Époque buildings that line the sands of the Côte d'Azur, the hotel's current building opened its doors in February 1929 and immediately established a new era of hospitality on the French Riviera, offering what was back then state of the art accommodations.  Hotel Martinez has a reputation for its superb celebrations of special events; realising the importance of cuisine among today's travellers, the hotel's restaurants have more Michelin stars than any other along the Côte d'Azur, and of course the accommodation is of the highest quality with all the modern amenities expected in a luxury property.  Film Festival stars flock here for the spacious accommodation and the friendly, professional service eagerly proffered by the staff of this Art Déco palace by the sea.

Hotel Martinez sits on the site of a villa known as 'La Coquette' which belonged to English aristocrats during the real estate boom of the late nineteenth century. This villa was bought by the King of Naples who expanded the original building to become Villa Marie-Thérèse. World War I was not kind to the villa, and the Chairman of the Société des Grands Hôtels de Cannes, Mr Emmanuel Martinez took the decision to demolish the building and from these ruins the largest hotel in the region was to be constructed.

Since 1929 to this day, Hotel Martinez has been a Cannes institution known for its excellence in accommodation and hosting of events.  The newly renovated Prestige Suites are spacious oases of privacy, and the Suite des Oliviers offers a huge private deck overlooking La Croisette and the entire stretch of Mediterranean coast.  The deck does indeed have a pair of the olive trees for which the suite is named, as well as an abundance of other vegetation to give the impression of a private garden with spectacular views.

And if you think Hotel Martinez rates are only for those with trust funds or expense accounts, think again; while the celebrities clamour for a room here during the annual Festival de Cannes, ordinary mortals are able to reserve rooms at other times of the year when, perhaps, a pleasant surprise may be in store when it comes time to pay the bill.  For example, to celebrate the hotel's 80th anniversary in 2009, Hotel Martinez offered 80 rooms at 80 euros during the month of February.  What more romantic getaway for Valentine's Day than an indulgent weekend on the French Riviera, and at a bargain rate?  Watch out for other such special offers throughout the year and snare a great deal in one of the most prestigious hotels in the world.
