The route will be serviced by a Boeing 777 on the route which is capable of carrying 103 tonnes of cargo, with its main deck door being the widest of any aircraft carrier.
Emirates senior vice president cargo planning and freighters Hiran Perera said that Los Angeles was a cargo processing hub.
“Los Angeles ranks 14th in the world and fifth in the US in the amount of air cargo tonnage processed, and handled over 1,9 million tons of air cargo valued at nearly US$ 87 billion in 2012, which is indicative of its importance as an air cargo hub. We anticipate good growth out of Los Angeles,” Mr Perera said.
In 2013, Emirates SkyCargo carried 49000 tonnes of cargo from the United States to destinations worldwide.
