A ride back in time

If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to step on board the hippie, trippy, time travelling Magic Bus and wear a flower in your hair!

Taking you through a psychedelic trip through time, the colourful bus weaves through the streets of San Francisco, telling the story of 1960’s hippie and Beatnik generations, an era which had significant impact on not just the city itself but the entire world.

The fun, informative and interactive hippie-themed historical tour of the city is led by hippie tour guide “Tree Flower” on board a colourful bus modelled on that of author Ken Kesey’s acid test bus of the sixties, and has retractable projection screens which come over the windows and show you the view of the past.

The two hour tour starts in Union Square and travels through some of San Francisco’s most popular and significant attractions, including the financial district, Golden Gate Park and Chinatown, from where eastern philosophy spread in the 1960’s, kicking off the hippie craze.

A definite highlight of the tour is going through the colourful Haight-Ashbury, discovering the landmarks and secrets of 1967’s Summer of Love, when around 100,000 people united in this iconic neighbourhood, making a major impact on the cultural and political status at that time.

A melting pot of music and creativity, sixties and seventies era San Francisco was never short of inspiration.  Road trip through the neighbourhoods and jaunts that were once the stomping grounds of legendary game changers such as Jimi Hendrix and Jack Kerouac.

With a proud history that inspired a ripple effect of change all over the world, San Francisco has an incredible story to tell, and the Magic Bus tour is a fantastic way to get a unique glimpse into what the city once was and how it is today.

The Magic Bus departs from 280 Greary Street, Union Square at 10am and 12:30pm every Friday and Saturday.
