Lausanne’s Beau-Rivage Palace: Jewel Of The Swiss Riviera

Attentive staff make dining and staying at Beau-Rivage Palace that much more enjoyable.

Beau-Rivage Palace is one of Switzerland’s-and the world’s-leading hotels. Located in the Lausanne’s lakeside district of Ouchy, Beau-Rivage Palace offers a sanctuary to visitors looking for a picture-perfect Swiss panorama, here accompanied by contemporary touches like unusual cuisine, a Spa Cinq Mondes, and all the mod cons demanded by today’s traveller. Though the expectation would be that this is a businessman’s hotel, there is a surprisingly number of families in residence. Actually, it makes sense; with Beau-Rivage Palace’s children’s programs, a private park and the fun of the lake’s pedal boats just a few hundred metres away, kids love it here. Another draw, Lausanne’s outstanding Olympic Museum, is located right next door; Beau-Rivage Palace guests have direct access to the Museum’s grounds through a private gate.

Naturally, in a property of this calibre, the grand suites, decorated in many different styles, are superb, but Beau-Rivage Palace also offers a number of more basic rooms that have special characteristics, like the ground-floor doubles that look out over the garden through French doors, giving the feeling of being at home on the Swiss Riviera. Rooms ending in 55 are large junior suites with balconies and fine views of the lake from every point in the room.

Room 423 has a private rooftop terrace.

The hotel’s motto is Tradition On The Move. Unlike some top hotels in Switzerland that rest on their laurels and lag in keeping up with the preferences of modern-day travellers, Beau-Rivage Palace deftly combines a respect for its illustrious past with an eagerness to be on the cutting edge of hotel experiences. This eagerness is especially apparent in the food and beverage outlets, making seats at Beau-Rivage Palace’s excellent restaurants highly coveted. Smartly, the restaurants all offer dreamy views of Lake Geneva whether guests are sitting in the ground-floor garden area or in the refined dining room of esteemed chef Anne-Sophie Pic, who brought her expertise from her three-Michelin-starred restaurant in France to earn another two here in Switzerland. As would be expected, the menu is exquisite in both quality and selection. Less formal are Café Beau-Rivage, which serves hearty brasserie fare with panache, and Miyako Lausanne, where Japanese cuisine with flair is enjoyed by well-heeled patrons served by a professional, friendly staff. These are located side by side on the hotel’s ground floor and create something of a private European dining street that just happens to be in a gracious hotel on the edge of beautiful scenery.

Everyone eats well at Beau-Rivage Palace.

In addition to its abundant pampering of leisure guests, Beau-Rivage Palace makes an excellent MICE destination. The hotel’s comfortable rooms and sumptuous suites are complemented by their public-area counterparts. The centrepiece of the hotel, the stunningly beautiful La Rotonde, is a large, round space that is the ultimate in ornamental architecture and décor. La Rotonde can be hired for small to medium sized events; larger events can take place under the glass ceiling and chandeliers of the vast Salle Sandoz, where cosy corners around the enormous hall make the perfect places for breakout sessions. There is also a well-appointed boardroom with direct access to a terrace for more intimate-and more confidential-meetings. Beau-Rivage Palace’s new Seminar Service Assistance provides guidance as to how best organise your event. Even more special a venue is the hotel’s classic steamboat, Le Montreux, which can be hired for private events. What more memorable an experience than watching a PowerPoint presentation afloat in the middle of one of the world’s most beautiful lakes?
