There was not a very long queue at check in and we were soon processed with two check in bags interlined through Bangkok to Nairobi. We were allocated seats 34E and 34F as had been pre-booked by our agent. These are a middle seat and aisle seat in the economy cabin of a B777 which has a 3-3-3 configuration.
Boarding and Flight
Boarding was delayed about 15 minutes due to an issue with the in-flight entertainment system – a small price to pay prior to a 12 hour flight to ensure the entertainment system is working correctly. Despite the delay the flight did arrive in Bangkok on time. The in-flight entertainment on Thai is an interactive on-demand system allowing passengers to select from a wide variety of films, TV shows, games, etc and to watch and play or pause at their own convenience.
As a mid day departure from Auckland and an evening arrival in to Bangkok this 12 hour flight had a lunch, followed by a dinner and just prior to arrival a sandwich option. All meals were of a very good quality with ample selection available. Pleasing to see was the meals came with metal cutlery and nice glasses. The service, whilst fine, was also a little mechanical with no expression shown by the crew.
The B777 is one of my favorite aircraft to travel on as it always gives a spacious feel and the Thai configuration certainly does not disappoint. This flight was only about 50% full so you would expect the service to be good, which it was without being outstanding. All meals were delivered on time and the bathrooms were kept very clean and tidy for a long flight. Top marks to Thai for the entertainment system and range of entertainment available.
