Oil spill payments on the way

Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association chairman Keith Overton sent a letter to members last week reporting an influx of remunerations from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill fund.

The fund is being managed by Kenneth Feinberg and his team of lawyers.

Mr Feinberg has come under a barrage of criticism in recent months in regards to the transparency concerning compensation amounts.

According to Bloomberg, Overton, who had been among those saying Feinberg was dragging his feet, now writes that he’s making “excellent progress.”

Mr Overton reports his St. Pete Beach resort has received its emergency payment and expects to obtain another totalling US$1.3 million on behalf of its condominium owners.

Even though only a handful of Florida’s beaches were affected by the oil spills, most compensation claims stem from business loss due to a lack of tourism.
